Allahu Akbar! (God is the Greatest!)

"The same night he arose and took his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jab'bok. ... And Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and Jacob's thigh was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said, "I will not let you go, unless you blessme." And he said to him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Jacob." Then he said, "Your name shall no more be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed."
~Genesis 32: 22 - 29

"By the Night as it conceals
By the Day as it appears in glory
By the creation of male and female
Truly, the ends you strive for are diverse.
So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah)
And testifies to the Best,
We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss."
~Holy Qur'an, Sura Lail (Night) ayats 1 - 7

"If God
Invited you to a party
And said,

In the ballroom tonight
Will be my special

How would you treat them
When you

Indeed, indeed!

And Hafiz knows
There is no one in this world

Is not upon
His Jeweled Dance

"Even when we don't desire it,
God is ripening." ~Rilke

I moved to New Britain, CT, in July of 2005 in order to attend Hartford Seminary. I am seeking a Masters of the Arts in Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim Relations. I hope to become a mediator between Christianity and Islam, to do my part to affirm the best of both faiths while being careful not to gloss over or trivialize their substantial differences. I believe that believers of all faiths have a responsibility to come together where we can to build God's kingdom together. I often struggle with the inconsistencies between my two beloved faiths that have become a part of me, but, as I once said, I am convinced that the pain and confusion I often feel is simply love that I haven't grown into yet.

Beyond being a spirit/theologeek, I love reading, writing both poetry and fiction, sketching, and watercolor. I dance badly and often. (Actually, I have a fairly good rhythm for belly dancing, but often trip over my own feet when I let them become involved. :) I love all kinds of music. I previously made a living, if that is indeed what it can be called, by educating middle school students. I am a recently converted Kwanophile and Buffy Geek; I also enjoy Gilmore and Golden Girls.

My journal (when I do post) may tend to reflect fairly liberal points of view, but I welcome a range of opinions and ideas from across all kinds of political and religious spectra.
